Free SSL Certificate from Let’s Encrypt
What is an SSL certificate?
An SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer or Transport Layer Security), is an encryption system that is used worldwide for data transfer between browser and server.
This encryption allows the data to be encrypted in its transfer, providing an extra layer of security between sender and receiver against Hacker attacks or data theft.

Advantages of using HTTPS on your website
Using an SSL protocol (https) adds an important layer of security and privacy to your website. The SSL protocol interposes an additional layer of encryption to the data that circulates between your users and the server where your Web is located, which guarantees that the information that is transmitted cannot be read by a third party that intercepts the communications.
Google has confirmed that it will reward web pages that have an SSL security certificate activated and installed with better positioning.
Like everything that surrounds the Google environment, it is unknown when and to what extent this aspect could affect the positioning of a web project 🙂
If you use https you can activate HTTP/2 and prepare for the future.
It generates confidence in your visitors and customers.
Answering questions
Frequently asked questions about installing an SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt in Webempresa
How many domains is the certificate valid for?
They are valid for a single domain or aliases. If you have two domains that point to the same Webempresa hosting plan (as additional domains, each one shows a website), you can have an SSL certificate for each of them.
Keep in mind that once you have the certificate, your CMS has to be correctly configured to be able to work with SSL.
You may need to make changes to your CMS in order to work with SSL.
Let’s Encrypt supports IDN domains, that is, you can have your certificate in domains that include characters such as ñ or ç.
Do I have to renew the https certificate?
Free Let’s Encrypt certificates are automatically renewed every 3 months. You will not have to wait for the renewal. 🙂
Renewals will be made as long as the domain for which you have the certificate is pointing to our servers and web hosting with us.
If Let’s Encrypt modifies its free policy, we will not be able to continue offering or renewing the certificate under the same conditions.
Do I have to have to keep my domain in Webempresa?
Let’s Encrypt’s free certificates can only be offered to you if you have the domain for which you request the certificate pointing to our servers and web hosting with us.
If at any time your domain does not point to Webempresa or your website is not on Webempresa, we will not be able to continue offering you the renewal of Let’s Encrypt certificates.
Will using one of these SSL certificates affect my website negatively?
On the contrary.
Google and other search engines are improving the positioning of sites that use secure connections, with Let’s Encrypt being a trusted certificate authority for Google and major browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
Are they less reliable because they are free and anyone can use them?
They offer the same security and technical compatibility as standard payment certificates.
The difference with the paid certificates is that the free ones are valid for a maximum of 90 days. But at Webempresa you won’t have to worry about that, since we will automatically renew your certificates every three months so you don’t have to worry about it.
There are also other payment certificates, such as EV certificates, which display the company name in the navigation bar. Standard certificates and Let’s Encrypt certificates do not display this information in the navigation bar.
Is there anything on the web that will show that I am using a Let’s encrypt certificate?
The browser shows the typical green padlock and the domain goes from http to https, in the same way as when using any other trusted certificate authority.
Ok, how do I start?
If you are already a customer, access your Customer Area and from the Hosting menu you can install your Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate.
If you are not a customer yet, it will be a pleasure to host you 🙂
