Available domain
In this first phase the domain is free and can be registered. Any user can buy a .com.es domain available through a Registrar Agent accredited by Red.es and become its owner.
Register
The domain name is registered and can be active from 1 to 10 years. This is the period of the first registration, but if the holder decides to renew it, he can keep the domain active for as long as he wishes.
Due date
When the expiration date of the domain arrives, if it is not renewed, the domain expires. At that time, all services related to the domain become inactive: the website, email accounts, etc.
Grace period
If the domain is not renewed upon arrival, its expiration date enters a 10-day grace period. During this period, the domain remains inactive, but it can be renewed in the normal way at the provider that manages it.
Redemption Period
There are domain extensions that go through a redemption period between the grace period and the deletion period. However, .com.es domains do not have this phase and go directly from grace to elimination.
Deletion
If the domain is not renewed during the grace period, at the end of the period it remains in the deletion process for a few hours. When it is deregistered, it becomes available again for registration by any user.

Frequently asked questions about .com.es domains
What are .com.es domains used for?
.com.es domains are third-level domains derived from the main extension .es. This extension was also created in 1988 as one of the territorial extensions or ccTLD (Country Code Top Level Domain) for Spain and for the Spanish language. The body in charge of managing this extension is dominios.es, which is part of the public business entity Red.es. You can register your domain name under all .es extensions to protect a brand aimed at the Spanish public. If your name is not available under the .es extension, you can also use the third level as an alternative to link your domain to Spain.
DNS update in .com.es domains
The DNS of a .com.es domain can be modified at any time at the provider where the domain is managed. At Webempresa you have a control panel where you can check the DNS assigned to the domain and also modify them.
Red .es updates its system 6 times a day: at 2:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.: 00h (CEST time).
In these updates, the DNS changes made in .com.es domains are applied. Therefore, when a DNS modification is made to a .com.es domain, it will not be effective until the next update of the Red.es system.
Change of Whois data in .com.es domains
The change of data in the contact owner of the .org.es domains is done through the Red.es website.
In this guide you can see how to do it step by step: Change owner of a .es domain.
ESNIC determines that it is a transfer of ownership of the domain from one person to another (physical or legal), and therefore a certain procedure must be followed that is somewhat longer and more complex.
Regarding administrative, technical or billing contacts, it is possible to update them at the provider where the domain is managed.
Is it advisable to use .com.es domains with ñ?
We do not recommend registering domains with special characters as it can cause problems with related services, such as email accounts. Although the domain is registered with the ñ, it is necessary to perform a translation in a different format, and it will be an IDN domain. For example, the domain españa.com translates into xn--espaa-rta.com, and it will be as it appears for services, such as email accounts.
Are there .com.es domains that are reserved or that cannot be registered?
There is a list of domains determined by Red.es that can only be registered in case of accrediting legal documentation. Includes terms related to State institutions, officially accredited international organizations, and place names that coincide with the official name of territorial public administrations.
Can I assign my company data in Whois contacts to the .com.esdomain?
The contact owner of the .com.es domains can be a company or individual. However, the administrative, technical and billing contacts may only have the data of a natural person or individual, not of a company.
